A New Mexico man was arrested on suspicion of kidnaping and assault early Monday, just hours after he broke into his former girlfriend’s apartment and dragged her to his car, police said.
Zachary Josh Burns, 21, of Rosswell, N.M., was being held Monday by Cypress police in lieu of $50,000 bail, Lt. John Schaefer said.
Burns “forcibly entered” the apartment of his former girlfriend, Micki Baily, 35, shortly after midnight, Schaefer said. He then forced Baily into his car, parked outside in the 9200 block of Bloomfield Street, the police lieutenant said.
Neighbors reported the struggle to police and gave a description of Burns and his car, Schaefer said.
Cypress Police Officer John Avila spotted Burns and his car about 2 1/2 hours later just one block from Baily’s apartment and stopped him, Schaefer said.
Baily, who was in the car, was treated at Los Alamitos Medical Center for facial, neck and leg injuries and was released, Schaefer said.
