Community College Roundup : Thobe’s Six-Hitter Stops Pasadena, 6-0

Tom Thobe threw a six-hit shutout and Joe Aversa had two hits and three RBIs to lead Golden West College to a 6-0 victory over Pasadena in the opening game of the South Coast Conference baseball season at Golden West.
Thobe improved to 4-1 for Golden West (10-6, 1-0). Pasadena is 0-1, 5-9.
In another South Coast Conference baseball game:
El Camino 5, Fullerton 4--El Camino rallied for four runs in the ninth at home. David Wackerman (1-1) took the loss in relief for Fullerton (14-3-1, 0-1). El Camino is 13-7, 1-0.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:
Saddleback 7, Orange Coast 2--Mark Hansen, Ed Peregrino and Russ Decker won singles, and each played on a winning doubles team for visiting Saddleback (8-1, 4-0), which moves into first place.
Cypress 6, Rancho Santiago 3--John Swaino defeated John Fung, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 singles for visiting Cypress (1-2 in conference play).
In Orange Empire women’s tennis:
Rancho Santiago 5, Cypress 4--Janice Witte and Loy Brown defeated Stacy Carson and Julie McClellan, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 singles for visiting Rancho Santiago in the deciding match.
In South Coast Conference men’s tennis:
Golden West 7, Mt. San Antonio 2--Robert Lucas defeated Tom Kakalos, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 singles for visiting Golden West (7-7, 4-2).
In South Coast Conference women’s tennis:
Golden West 9, Mt. San Antonio 0--Eileen Robertson defeated Kim Thomas, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles for host Golden West (7-2, 6-0).
