Hart pitcher Kim Weil may be a sophomore, but she’s pitching like a veteran. Weil pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 14 Tuesday in Hart’s 5-1 nonleague victory over Royal at Rancho Simi Community Park. In the second game, the teams played substitutes and were tied, 5-5, when the game was called by mutual consent after 7 innings.
“She handles pressure extremely well,” said Al Weil, Hart’s coach and Kim’s father. “She’s moving along pretty good.”
Last season, Weil had a 15-7 record and struck out 150 batters. This season, she is 6-1 and has 64 strikeouts in 43 innings. She has yet to allow an earned run.
“She’s been pitching with more control and consistency this season,” Al Weil said.
Royal scored its run on a walk and an error. Kim Weil lost her bid for a no-hitter when she gave up a bloop single with two outs in the sixth inning.
Kris Yeates had 3 hits for Hart (6-1-1) and teammate Desa Pecel was 3 for 4 with a run batted in.
Santa Ynez 10, Oak Park 0--The Eagles had 7 hits--the same as Santa Ynez--but committed 5 errors to lose their Tri-Valley League opener at Santa Ynez.
“I don’t know if it was first game jitters or traveling so far,” Oak Park Coach Roger Newell said. “But we don’t normally make errors.”
Oak Park (1-2) loaded the bases with one out in the third inning but failed to score. The Eagles missed another opportunity in the fifth inning when they had runners on second and third with no outs.
The game was called after 5 innings because of the 10-run rule.
Agoura 11, Calabasas 0--Agoura freshman Melissa Thatcher allowed only 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 9 in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.
Tamara Dulansky was 3 for 5 and Christine McComb added 2 hits for Agoura (4-1).

Marilyn Carroll (0-2) allowed 7 hits and suffered the loss.
Neither team had an extra-base hit in the two 6-inning games. Newbury Park dropped to 1-2-1.
La Reina 5, Carpinteria 2 -- La Reina’s Sherry Sisco struck out 13 and allowed only 1 hit in the Tri-Valley League opener for both schools.
Sisco (2-2) also was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
West Valley Christian 9, Whitney 3-- Lisa Anderson had a double, a home run and drove in 2 runs to lead West Valley Christian in a nonleague game at West Valley Christian in Canoga Park. Laurel Hemphill also drove in 2 runs. Catherine Burke picked up her first win of the season.
