Culver Reconsiders Billboard Sponsor
The Culver City Council this week voted to reconsider corporate sponsorship of a replacement electronic reader board for the Veterans Memorial Building.
The council last year rejected the idea of a fixed corporate logo on a new reader board, which will replace the present 8-year-old board, saying it was inconsistent with city policy prohibiting advertising on public property.
But after debating the issue in a meeting this week, council members Jozelle Smith, Steven Gourley and Jim Boulgarides voted against a motion to pay $59,000 for the new board.
The council then agreed to have the staff study the possibility of a fixed corporate advertisement on the board, which faces the intersection of Culver Boulevard and Overland Avenue and announces events at the Veterans Memorial Building.
