WELFARE IN ORANGE COUNTY : 55-ALIVE MATURE DRIVING PROGRAM

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) sponsors monthly classes for its “55-Alive Mature Driving Program,” a state-approved refresher course for licensed drivers 55 years and older. The two-day, 8-hour course costs $8, and includes a state Department of Motor Vehicles certificate issued upon program completion. The certificate is required by auto insurance companies for senior discount rates. Attendance is by reservation only.

The AARP needs more volunteer instructors. Many senior citizen centers have waiting lists for mature driving classes. If you are 55 years old and older and would like to volunteer, contact your nearest AARP office or senior center.
