A Laguna Beach attorney has been arrested on charges of defrauding two clients of $265,000, Orange police said Friday.
Russell W. Kidder, 41, surrendered himself to a judge Friday after police had issued a warrant for his arrest, Orange Police Sgt. Timm Browne said. Kidder faces seven felony counts that include grand theft and forgery, Browne said.
An Orange physician told police in October, 1986, that he had been swindled by Kidder in a trust deed loan on a Newport Beach house that belonged to one of Kidder’s relatives. When the doctor, whom police would not identify, asked for the deed, Kidder allegedly drew up a fake document and presented it to him, Browne said.
Kidder also allegedly stole funds from a trust account he handled for a client from Idaho, Browne said. Kidder is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Orange County Municipal Court on June 6.
