Driving winds whipped flames across 285 acres of dry shrubs and grass in Riverside County, frustrating the 160 firefighters battling the blaze but threatening no structures, authorities said. The fast-moving fire erupted on a hillside in Aliso Canyon in Corona, 35 miles southwest of Los Angeles, Orange County Fire Department spokeswoman Kathleen Cha said. More than 160 firefighters from four agencies had contained 50% of the blaze by evening, Cha said. No injuries had been reported and no structures threatened. Five air tankers and two helicopters attacked the blaze with water drops, while firefighters on the ground sought to cut a firebreak around the burning, bone-dry brush fueled by winds reaching 30 m.p.h., Cha said.
