Rossen is correct when she says that society owes criminals zip. Unfortunately, our archaic courts have decided that society owes these people more rights than it does their victims.
Perhaps, in a way, Rossen was spared in that she did not have to face her assailant in a courtroom, where victim is defined as a living being sacrificed to a defense attorney. At least there won’t be any trial, appeals or probation hearings that will forever remind her of her ordeal. Fortunately, Rossen can put this tragedy behind her and hope that her assailant, out of fear of being captured, is long gone.
