Local News in Brief : Sewer Panel Resolution
- Share via
The committee studying sewer alternatives in Malibu has passed a resolution asking Los Angeles County not to interfere with its work.
The action was prompted by the recent request of the county Board of Supervisors that the county maintain jurisdiction over Malibu’s sewage disposal even if the beachside community becomes a city. The matter is before the Local Agency Formation Commission.
At a meeting Monday night, committee members said they were concerned that the supervisors would usurp the work of their group, which was formed by the county after a public outcry from Malibu residents last October halted the supervisors’ plan to build an $86-million sewer system along the coast.
The committee has hired several engineering consultants to investigate ways to treat waste water in Malibu. The consultants are expected to finish their studies early next month.
