NEW YORK — A wayward humpback whale that strayed up the Hudson River cut its Big Apple visit short after a Coast Guard crew gunned their engines, banged pipes and sounded horns to get it to turn around.
The 35-foot whale, a juvenile, was last spotted just after 6 a.m. today off the New Jersey coast 50 miles from New York City. The whale got as far as 80th Street on its Thursday afternoon foray up the Hudson.
