Santa Clara Sisters Win 17-18 Title in Synchronized Swimming

Jennifer and Stephanie Sogawa, sisters from Santa Clara, won the duet competition for 17- and 18-year-olds Sunday at the Synchronized Swimming National Age Group Championships at Heritage Park in Irvine.
The Sogawas defeated Nadine Bekker and Michelle Troy of Walnut Creek by a little more than a point. The Sogawas had a combined score of 138.785 points. Bekker and Troy scored 137.688.
Bekker, however, won the 17-18 solo competition with 141.161 points. Tricia Bisbee of Mission Viejo was second with 138.327.
Nicole Banks and Kristina Vorheis of Walnut Creek won the 15-16 duet with 135.215 points. In second with 133.186 points were Mandy Blake and Khadija Cutcher of Santa Clara.
The 15-16 solo winner was Margot Thien of Walnut Creek, with 140.086 points. Kristy Donn of Tonawanda, N.Y., was second with 137.037.
