But David Letterman told the Washington Post he doesn’t exactly feel great about having done so. “I actually feel like I’m not doing the right thing,” said Letterman, a member of the Writers Guild of America. “I owe a great deal to our writers and I feel like being back here without them is not the right way to behave. (But) with a show like this, you can’t take it off the air for a third of the year and expect everything to be great when you return.” Better working, though, than playing tennis with Johnny Carson, who smoked Letterman, 6-1. “I just couldn’t get over the fact that you look across the net and there’s Johnny Carson,” Letterman said.
