A 4-year-old Long Beach boy was strangled when shoelaces left hanging on a support post became wrapped around his neck as he rode down a playground slide in Santa Ana, police said. The shoelaces literally held him suspended on the slide, a spokesman for the Orange County sheriff-coroner’s office said. The boy was identified as Plese Williams of Long Beach. Police said the boy and his mother were visiting friends at the Nantucket apartments, adjacent to the playground in the 700 block of South Lyon Street. No one apparently witnessed the accident, but police said several children found the boy hanging by the circular slide at about 3:30 p.m.
