Fountain Valley police arrested a Huntington Beach man Wednesday in the deaths of Jaime Squire, 17, and her 7-month-old fetus, who died in a car accident last month.
Ruben Martinez, 20, was booked into County Jail on two counts of vehicular manslaughter and felony driving while under the influence of alcohol in the June 13 accident. Bail was set at $25,000.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Magnolia Street and Ellis Avenue in Fountain Valley. Martinez’s car allegedly struck the Volkswagen in which Squire was riding, police said. Squire and the fetus died the next day.
“At the time, witnesses differed on who had run a red light,” Lt. Rod Gillman said. After interviewing witnesses again, police believe that Martinez was at fault, Gillman said.
