The Music Center of Los Angeles raised more than $13 million in its Campaign ‘87-88 for the benefit of Music Center-quartered performance companies. The $13-million figure surpassed last year’s goal of $12.3 million and broke the Music Center Unified Fund record with more than 4,000 new donors, according to a statement issued by Music Center President Esther Wachtell. The companies benefiting from the drive include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles Music Center Opera, the Joffrey Ballet LA/NY, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the Music Center Education Division. Next up: Campaign ‘89, with a goal of $14 million. The new drive will have a new chairman, too: William A. Carter, vice chairman of the accounting firm Ernest & Whinney, will replace Robert H. Smith, president and chief executive officer of Security Pacific National Bank.
