Advanced Marketing Services, the San Diego supplier of books to membership warehouse chains including Price Club, reported sharp increases in sales and earnings for the first quarter ended June 30.
Profit for the three months was $530,000 on revenue of $25.6 million, up from a profit of $194,000 on sales of $16.7 million over the same three months last year.
The number of membership warehouses now supplied by the company grew to 244 as of June 30, up from 212 a year previous, Advanced Marketing Services Vice President Wayne Sheppard said Tuesday. Comparative sales, or sales at customer stores that have been supplied by the company for a year or more, were up 35% during the first quarter over the corresponding three months of 1987.
