Local News in Brief : Boy Released in Shooting
- Share via
A 15-year-old Inglewood boy who shot and killed his stepfather was released from custody Tuesday without being charged, pending further investigation, Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Al Botello said.
After the Sunday night shooting, the youth told police that he “had enough” of his stepfather terrorizing and brutalizing his family. Derrick Nims, a 33-year-old janitor, was killed about 9:50 p.m. in the front yard of the family’s home.
Police said Nims was slapping and pushing his wife against the front door when his stepson got a revolver from the house and shot him.
