25 Feared Dead as Slides, Flooding Ravage S. Korea

SEOUL, South Korea — Landslides and flooding caused by torrential rains left 25 people dead or missing today, a government agency said.
The National Counter-Disaster Center said 16 people were confirmed killed and nine were missing and presumed dead.
News reports said about 650 houses were flooded and 2,640 people were evacuated to schools and other temporary shelters after the latest downpours, which dropped nearly 8 inches of rain.
Officials said that since the rainy season began July 8, 32 people have died and 10 are missing. Property damage was estimated at $45 million.
