All-Star Football Team Fashions a Valley Look

Quarterback Jeremy Leach of Granada Hills, the 1987 City Section player of the year, heads a list of 72 players selected to play in the Pepsi College Prep All-Star Football Classic on July 30 at San Diego Mesa College.
Three players from Granada Hills, the City 4-A Division champion, and eight players from runner-up Carson dominate a City team that will face a group of all-stars from the San Diego Section. Leach will be joined by teammates Kyle Jan at receiver and offensive lineman Joe Beauvais.
Frank D’Alessandro of Monroe and Henry Pacheco of San Pedro will serve as co-coaches for a City team that includes 16 players and three alternates from the Valley area.
Running backs selected include Mike Conover of Canoga Park, Chip Grant of North Hollywood and Derrick Duren of Gardena. Reseda’s Ronald Wilkinson is an alternate.
Bryan Addison of Chatsworth, Sam Edwards of Reseda, Tommy Howard of San Fernando, Mario Hull of Cleveland and Joel Gutierrez of Huntington Park head the the list of selections to the defensive backfield. Brent Huff of San Fernando and Kevin Carmichael of Granada Hills are alternates.
Offensive linemen include Dave Audelo of Canoga Park, Armando Gallo of Franklin, Frederick Rogers of Westchester and Vincent Smith of Locke. Defensive linemen are Juan Cardona of Franklin, Kevin Johnson of Westchester, Thomas Leonti of Carson, Chris Mims of Dorsey and Reggie Fennell and Sale Paopao of Carson.
Linebackers include Arnold Ale, Arthur Warren and Rick Tiedemann of Carson, Jose Aguilar and Eric Fiori of Franklin, Scott Reisbord of Monroe and Jon Thompson of Taft.
Joining Jan at receiver are Harold Champion of Palisades and Bryon Reeves of Carson.
Vic Player of Lincoln and John Shacklett of Morse will coach the San Diego team. Lincoln’s Darrin Wagner, the San Diego Section player of the year, leads a backfield that also includes Army-Navy Academy’s Jason Simpson, the son of NFL Hall-of-Fame member O.J. Simpson.
