THE OUTDOORS : Corvina Could Be a Record

Orangemouth corvina thrive in Imperial County’s Salton Sea during the summer months so it’s not uncommon during this time of year for fishermen to catch more and bigger fish.
But when Chino resident Dick Van Dam recently caught his fish near the Red Hill Marina, he knew it was something extraordinary.
Van Dam, 58, had his fish weighed on a certified scale which it tipped at 37 pounds. If ratified by the Department of Fish and Game, Van Dam’s catch will become a new state record, breaking the 36-pound 8-ounce mark for corvina set in the Salton Sea in 1980.
