The Pacific Symphony has revived its community outreach orchestra, now to be called the Community Symphony of Orange County, orchestra officials announced Wednesday.
The orchestra will be led by Donn Mills, chairman of the music department at Chapman College in Orange and also music director of the fledgling Capistrano Valley Symphony.
The community orchestra was founded in 1987 and first led by former assistant conductor Edmundo Diaz del Campo who resigned in August, 1987, citing broken promises and personality conflicts with music director Keith Clark.
Diaz del Campo, who had been Pacific Symphony’s first assistant conductor, went on to become artistic administrator of the San Diego Symphony.
The 35-member community group will begin rehearsals today at 7:30 p.m. at the Pacific Symphony Center in Santa Ana. Musicians interested in joining can call (714) 973-1322.
