A fire that swept through a car and killed a 16-month-old girl trapped in her infant seat probably started when her brothers played with matches, Northern California investigators said. Najia Nawabi died last week when flames consumed her parent’s car in the parking lot of a medical center in Castro Valley. Fire Marshal Robert Bohman said a spent book of matches was found in the charred wreckage of Noorn and Noor Nawabi’s auto. The Nawabi’s two sons, ages 4 and 2, had been in the car when the fire started, he said. The parents were in the medical center.
