Local News in Brief : Costa Mesa : Youth Arrested as Police Find Car Burglary Tools
- Share via
A 16-year-old youth has been arrested on suspicion of possessing auto burglary tools, but an alleged teen-age accomplice escaped, police said Sunday.
The two had allegedly tried to steal a pickup truck and were scared off, Costa Mesa police Lt. Dennis Cost said.
A security guard spotted a pair of youths running near the parking garage next to the Edwards South Coast Plaza Theatres on Sunflower Avenue about 4 p.m. Saturday and chased them, Cost said. The guard said he saw the youths dump the tools into a trash can.
He captured one of the youths, a Santa Ana resident who later told police that the tools belonged to the youth who escaped, also a 16-year-old.
The truck showed no sign of a break-in, Cost added, but the arrested youth--who was later released to his parents--told investigators of the theft plan.
