Student Jailed After Tussle With Teacher

Al Martinez’s column about Julian Chaney appeared the day after KCET’s presentation of “Native Son” and served to point out that we have not come as far on the road to racial justice as we might like to think we have.
I hope someone with influence and compassion read this column and was moved to go to Chaney’s aid. I hope this unfortunate setback will not affect his art scholarships.
