Local News in Brief : Curfew Imposed on Club
- Share via
The City Council on Tuesday imposed a midnight curfew on a controversial mid-Wilshire nightclub and barred dancing there until the owners get a special permit.
The Wall Street club has operated six nights a week in the historic El Rey Theatre at 5515 Wilshire Blvd. for the past 18 months but may be effectively shut down by the conditions imposed by the council.
After hearing testimony from angry neighbors, who claim that they cannot sleep at night because of the noise, the council voted unanimously to order the club to close at midnight instead of 2 a.m. on weeknights. On Fridays and Saturdays, the club can remain open until 2 a.m. Even more crucial for the nightclub’s owners, the council voted to ban dancing until the owners get a conditional use permit.
