SACRAMENTO — Two gunmen robbed an armored car of more than $300,000 today as it delivered cash to a Wells Fargo branch, firing a weapon to distract employees and pistol whipping a guard.
FBI spokesman Tom Griffin said two gunmen approached the Loomis armored truck and fired a round to divert the occupants’ attention. At one point, a gunman assaulted one of the guards, who was hospitalized and is reported in good condition, Griffin said, adding that “more than one shot” was fired during the 11 a.m. holdup. A police dispatcher said a car matching the description given by witnesses of the suspects’ getaway car was found abandoned six blocks away.
