The Stars & Stripes catamaran, sporting its new 108-foot wing-sail, ventured into the ocean off San Diego for an impromptu America’s Cup training exercise with the New Zealand challenger.
There were no conclusive results drawn from the performances of the two boats, which spent about 10 minutes sailing together on starboard tack.
Michael Fay’s 132-foot New Zealand monohull is scheduled to meet the San Diego Yacht Club’s 60-foot catamaran, skippered by Dennis Conner, in a best-of-three series starting Sept. 7 off San Diego.
