The Nation : Funding for President-Elect Increased
- Share via
President Reagan has signed a bill increasing funding for an incoming President and vice president in the transition period from $2 million to $3.5 million, the White House announced. The legislation also provides an increase from $1 million to $1.5 million to an outgoing President and vice president. The funding was passed under amendments to the Presidential Transition Act of 1963. It requires that any amount appropriated in excess of $1.25 million would have to be returned to the Treasury if a former vice president becomes the President. The law authorizes the General Services Administration to arrange services and facilities for presidents-elect and vice presidents-elect in connection with the assumption of their duties, including suitable office space, furniture, travel expenses and communications services.
