VIDEO CHARTS : Martin-Candy Comedy Soars

“Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” the comedy starring John Candy and Steve Martin, leaped five places to the No. 4 position on the Billboard magazine rental chart. But it has only an outside chance at reaching No. 1. “18 Again!”--an age-reversal, “Big”-type fantasy starring George Burns and newcomer Charlie Schlatter--jumped off to a fast start, debuting at (ironically) No. 18. Another comedy with that same theme, “Like Father, Like Son,” (No. 16) has done respectable rental business for the last three months.
* Don’t let the seemingly slow start by “Moonstruck”--No. 29 on the rental chart--fool you. Because of the holiday, returns were slow to come in. “Moonstruck” could rocket into the Top 10--maybe even the Top Five--next week. Also, look for “Broadcast News” and “The Last Emperor” to debut in the Top 10 next week.
