PREP FOOTBALL : Garden Grove League : Explosive First Quarter Sparks La Quinta, 22-13

La Quinta High School scored 19 points in the first quarter and then held off Santiago for a 22-13 Garden Grove League victory Friday night at Garden Grove High School.
Tom Cherms scored the Aztecs’ first touchdown on a 20-yard run for a 6-0 lead.
Quarterback Trent Julian then threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Davey Shimabukuro. Matt Logan’s conversion made it 13-0.
Julian added a 6-yard run to give La Quinta a 19-0 lead.
Santiago pulled to within 19-13, as quarterback Dana Ripley scored on touchdown runs of 6 yards in the second quarter and 1 yard in the third quarter.
