The Moorpark City Council has appointed Councilwoman Eloise A. Brown as mayor and Councilman Bernardo Perez as mayor pro tem.
Brown was appointed Tuesday to serve for a year. However, the City Council on Dec. 7 will consider a proposal from Councilman Scott Montgomery to shorten the term to 6 months.
City Clerk Maureen Wall said Montgomery proposed the change in the length of the mayoral term to give other council members a chance to serve before voters begin directly electing the mayor in 1990.
On Nov. 8, Moorpark voters approved a ballot initiative calling for the direct election of the mayor, for 2-year terms.
Brown replaced John Patrick Lane, who declined to run for reelection to the five-member council.
