Santa Monica : Funeral for Former Mayor

Funeral services for former Santa Monica Mayor Virgil B. Kingsley were held Wednesday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Santa Monica.
Kingsley, chairman of the board of Gates Kingsley & Gates Mortuaries, died Monday morning at his Newport Beach home. He was 77.
Kingsley was appointed to the council in November, 1968, and was elected to a four-year term the next year. On April 20, 1971, he was elected to a two-year term as mayor, but resigned from the council six days later after suffering a minor heart attack.
He is survived by his wife Eileen (Dodie); one son, John L.; two daughters, Mary Olivier and Kathleen Carr, and six grandchildren.
