Steve Taylor Signs to Play in Edmonton

Steve Taylor, University of Nebraska quarterback and Lincoln High School graduate, announced Thursday that he has signed a 3-year contract with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
The value of the contract was not disclosed, although Taylor said he would earn six figures and that he has an option for a fourth year.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Brooke Meadows scored 19 points and had 9 rebounds and 3 blocks as host San Diego State defeated UC Santa Barbara, 69-55, in a Big West Conference game.
No. 19 SDSU (17-3, 8-3), playing without standout Chana Perry (inflamed Achilles tendons) held Kira Anthofer, Santa Barbara’s 6-foot 4-inch center and leading scorer (15.9 points a game) to 8 points.
Ahead, 50-45, with 12:26 left, SDSU scored 10 consecutive points to break the game open.
Julie Evans had 15 points and 6 assists for SDSU. Barbara Beainy led Santa Barbara (7-12, 3-8) with 14 points.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Five players scored in double figures as Christian Heritage defeated Occidental, 110-93, in a nonconference game at Granite Hills High School.
Brad Soucie led Christian Heritage (19-4) with 40 points, Mark Kraatz had 18, Rob Meeter 12 and Bill Soucie and David Kirksey 10.
John Keister scored 35 points for Occidental (12-6).
FOOTBALL
Mark Hood, a Kearny High defensive back, has verbally committed to play football at Weber State University in the fall. Hood (6-0, 170) is a three-sport athlete, competing also in basketball and track.
