Eastman Kodak Co.’s 1988 earnings rose 19% to a record $1.4 billion. Sales totaled a record $17 billion, up 28%. The Rochester, N.Y.-based photographic materials and equipment and chemicals maker attributed the results in part to the purchase of Sterling Drug Inc., the acquisition of IBM’s copier service business, which expanded by 50% its customer base in that area, and gains in operations outside the United States.
