Loara Gets Spark When It Counts to Edge Compton, 53-51

Reserve forward Melanie Sparks made a baseline jump shot with 2 seconds left to lift the Loara High School girls’ basketball team past Compton, 53-51, in the first round of the Southern Section 4-A playoffs Thursday at Compton.
Compton called an immediate timeout but missed a three-point try as time ran out.
Tracy Titus scored 22 points and Heidi Sorour added 10 for Loara. Kathleen Hill and Sharnette McMillan had 17 points apiece to lead Compton.
Loara (17-11) advances to play Artesia (17-5) in the second round Saturday. Compton finishes 15-7.
