I take umbrage with Steve Hochman’s Feb. 13 review of the Chieftains concert at the Wadsworth Theater. Mr. Hochman insists that all Irish classical music belongs in a smoke-filled pub and that any formal dressing or chamber orchestra qualities of the arrangements limits the audience involvement with the music.
Can I expect James Galway’s next concert to be in Molly Malone’s pub on Fairfax Avenue?
I was surprised to see the Chieftains reviewed in a pop column. Yes, I know of their collaboration with Van Morrison. I also know that Placido Domingo dueted with Willie Nelson. Does that mean the next “Aida” will in the Palomino?
I have performed in Carnegie Hall and I have performed the same words (words are also music to the Irish) in Molly Malone’s; audience response was no different.
