A construction crew Thursday damaged a valve on an underground gas line outside Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, prompting a brief evacuation of some area residents, authorities said. The hospital was not affected.
The valve on the 4-inch gas main was broken about 11:15 a.m. by workers excavating an area along George Burns Road south of Beverly Boulevard, Southern California Gas Co. spokeswoman Denise King said.
About 25 firefighters were summoned while a gas company crew repaired the damage, Fire Department spokesman Jim Williamson said. The leak was stopped by 1 p.m.
