‘Dolphin Cove’ Canceled, ‘Grown’ on Hiatus

CBS has canceled its new series “Dolphin Cove” and placed another low-rated first-season show, “Almost Grown,” on indefinite hiatus, the network said Monday.
“Dolphin Cove,” an hour drama about a dolphin researcher and his family, which premiered Jan. 21, was ordered by the network during last summer’s 154-day Writers Guild of America strike, in part because it was produced in Australia and so could employ non-union writers and go into production despite the strike. A network spokesman said CBS ordered eight episodes of the show and that all eight have been aired.
The spokesman said no return date has been set for “Almost Grown,” a baby-boomer show starring Timothy Daly and Eve Gordon as a couple going through various stages of their lives beginning in the 1960s.
The comedies “Newhart” and “Kate & Allie” will be presented in “Almost Grown’s” former 10-11 p.m. Monday time slot beginning next week. They previously have been seen on Mondays from 8-9 p.m. but were due to be bumped anyway by Monday’s premiere of two new comedies, “Heartland” and “Live-In.”
Moving into the “Dolphin Cove” time period of Saturday at 8 p.m. will be “Paradise,” beginning April 8. Replacing “Paradise” on Thursdays at 9 p.m., starting March 30, will be “The Equalizer,” which is departing the Wednesday lineup this week to make room for the return of “Jake and the Fatman.”
