High School Roundup : Trainor Lifts Burbank to Win Over Bell-Jeff

Burbank High pitchers Steve Trainor and Brian Gordon held Bell-Jeff to three hits Monday en route to a 5-0 nonleague baseball victory at Bell-Jeff.
Trainor, a senior left-hander, also contributed a three-run home run in the first inning as Burbank improved to 3-4. Bell-Jeff dropped to 2-4.
In other games:
Newbury Park 4, Buena 4 (8 innings)--Danny Madsen, Geoff Black and Eric Greene had two hits each to bring the Panthers back from a three-run deficit before the nonleague game was called because of darkness at Newbury Park. The Panthers (5-1-2) committed four errors in the fifth but Buena could only score once.
Christian Church 14, Simi Lutheran 4--John Boardman had two doubles and three RBIs and Jerel Long tossed a five-hitter for the Eagles in the nonleague game.
Marc Marshall drove in four runs on two singles to lead Christian Church (2-0).
SOFTBALL
Village Christian 3, Calabasas 0--Lea Blankenship and Jana Kovar combined on a one-hitter and Penny Bailey went two for three to lead the Crusaders to a nonleague win at Village Christian.
Blankenship struck out six in four innings before Kovar relieved her in the fifth.
Ribet Academy 15, Camarillo Christian 14--Julissa Lopez’s run-scoring single in the seventh snapped a 14-14 tie in the nonleague game at Ribet Academy.
Carisa Boshoff had three of the Eagles’ 10 hits, including a triple and double. Trailing, 13-6, Camarillo Christian rallied for eight runs in the last three innings before the Fighting Frogs won the game in the seventh on Lopez’s single.
Granada Hills 9, Roosevelt 5--Bonnie Weinberger pitched a four-hitter and hit a two-run triple for host Granada Hills in the nonleague game.
Trailing, 2-1, the Highlanders rallied for five runs in the third and three in the fourth. Wendy Harsha homered for Granada Hills (2-2).
GOLF
Calabasas 425, Royal 427--Freshman Stu Cohen shot an eight-over par 78 and Bennett Fisher had an 80 for the Coyotes (1-1) in the nonleague match at Simi Hills Golf Course.
GIRLS’ GYMNASTICS
Cleveland 144.6, Roosevelt 130--Senior Shannon Ulrich won three events to lead the Cavaliers in the nonleague match at Cleveland.
Ulrich won the vault, balance beam and the floor exercises and placed third in the parallel bars.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
North Hollywood d. Verdugo Hills 15-10, 15-8, 15-8--Trung Nguyen had 13 kills to lead the visiting Huskies (3-1).
Marshall d. Sylmar--10-15, 4-15, 15-4, 15-13, 16-14--Steve O’Connel had 22 kills and setter Steve Sapera had 46 assists for Sylmar in the nonleague win.
