Mandela and South Africa

Your editorial talks about poverty in South Africa. However bad it was before our boycotts, it must be worse today. This was predictable and predicted. Now you are shocked. This is one where the United States is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
Pious preachings about the horrors of apartheid will not feed a starving person. South Africa is having a terrible time and all we do is tell them to amend their racist ways. (I suppose we want them to imitate our racist ways!) If we don’t want to help them, at least we don’t need to hurt them. In any case, it’s worse than hypocritical for you to support boycotts and criticize the results.
