Proud Neighborhood

Pop writer Dennis Hunt, known for sensitivity and insight, misfires in his March 5 article on Delicious Records’ founders.

First, he refers to “young blacks--some who undoubtedly were raised to resent whites.” Second, he quotes one of his subjects as calling the Crenshaw district “a rough neighborhood.”

Very few black parents rear their children to resent anyone. We know the problems these kids will face and wouldn’t dare suggest hatred as a way to cope with a hostile world.

And only small parts of the Crenshaw district lend themselves to the violence suggested by the recording executive. I’m sure he would have been more specific, if the reporter had asked.

Why wouldn’t a responsible journalist like Hunt take an extra step not to besmirch a proud neighborhood trying hard to polish its image?
