APPLE VALLEY, Minn. — Police SWAT teams fired a stun grenade into a house Sunday and rescued two children held hostage by a blind prison escapee and an armed accomplice, killing the fugitive and ending a two-day standoff, authorities said.
Police said they shot and killed Larry Donnell Hill, 39, a blind man who had been imprisoned for murder, after breaking into the house and finding him holding a knife to the throat of one of the children. Police said they stormed the house because the suspects had threatened to kill one of the children.
Hill’s accomplice, Willie Johnson, 47, received minor injuries and was hospitalized before being jailed, authorities said.
