John Ngugi of Kenya won the men’s title at the World Cross-Country Championships at Stavanger, Norway.
Ngugi, the Olympic 5,000-meter champion, covered the 12-kilometer course in 39 minutes 42 seconds, almost a half minute faster than Tim Hutchings of Britain.
Annette Sergent of France won the women’s six-kilometer race, finishing seven seconds ahead of Nadezhda Stepanova of the Soviet Union in 22:27.
