Boxer Roy Jones Jr., who lost a controversial match for the gold medal in last year’s Seoul Olympics, will have the business end of his professional career guided by a former boxing promoter who was convicted of embezzlement.
Harold Rossfield Smith, paroled last October after serving more than five years for embezzling $21.3 million from the Wells Fargo Bank in California, will be an adviser to Jones, the fighter’s co-manager, Fred Levin, announced.
Jones lost a gold-medal bout to Park Si Hun of South Korea in a 3-2 decision in the 156-pound class but was named the outstanding boxer.
