KENNEBUNKPORT, Me. — President Bush today issued a statement praising House Speaker Jim Wright’s achievements after the Speaker announced his resignation in the face of ethics charges.
In response to a question aboard Air Force One as he was returning from a European trip where he addressed NATO, Bush said he is disturbed by talk of a political war between Democrats and Republicans in the House. “I don’t like it,” he said.
But he declined to offer advice to Democratic lawmakers as they prepare to install a new leadership team.
“The last thing they need is advice from the executive branch about how to proceed,” he said.
