Panorama City Man Held in Shooting Death

A Panorama City man was arrested Wednesday in the shooting death of a transient during a dispute over a woman at Hansen Dam Park in Pacoima, Los Angeles police said.
Scott Cowen, 35, was shot in the chest at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday during the argument in a parking area. He was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he died three hours later.
Witnesses provided police with a description of the gunman’s car. Police arrested Jimmie Stephens, 36, after the car was seen at a Sun Valley motel early Wednesday. Stephens was being held without bail on suspicion of murder at the Foothill Division Jail.
Detective Al Ferrand said it is believed that Cowen, who apparently slept at the park, and Stephens had argued over a “mutual girlfriend.”
