Goldie Gets Going on Palisades Home

GOLDIE HAWN’S new Pacific Palisades home is finally under way in earnest, after more than a year of planning.

The plans are for a 10,000-square-foot country-style mansion, which should take, by trade estimates, 14 to 15 months to complete. Work was delayed, observers say, by neighboring homeowners who objected to the size of the side yards.

Neither the builder, Martin Selko, nor the architect, Gus Duffy, would talk about the project, and the actress, who lives nearby, was unavailable to comment. She is in Canada making a film.

Information provided by Readysystems Group in Burbank shows, however, that Hawn purchased the property in April, 1988, for $2.1 million before having the existing house demolished and the land graded.

The site is about a block from an 11,000-square-foot house sold by Sylvester Stallone about six months ago for $3.5 million, according to Readysystems.

The late comedienne lived in Beverly Hills for more than 25 years and kept a trophy room there for her mementos, industry sources note.

The white-brick, traditional-style house has two stories, four or five bedrooms, a pool and a pool house on about three-fourths of an acre.

The corner property is on a street described as “the biggest mecca for tourists,” until big tour buses were prohibited and tourist vans were forced to keep moving. Many famous people lived near Lucy’s house at one time or another.

Jimmy Stewart still lives across the street, and Peter Falk lives three homes away. But Jack Benny lived next door, and other neighbors included Ira Gershwin, Eddie Cantor, and Rosemary Clooney and husband Jose Ferrer.

Lucy’s house is listed with Thelma Orloff, vice president of the Fred Sands Estates Division.

She wouldn’t comment, but Beverly Hills brokers weren’t surprised at her representing the house. Orloff, a showgirl who later appeared in many movies, was a friend of Lucy’s for 50 years.

Singer DENNIS DAY lived for almost 40 years in a Brentwood house that is for sale now, by his widow, for $4,425,000.

The 8,020-square-foot, New England-style mansion has seven bedrooms, six full baths, three powder rooms, four fireplaces, a paneled study, a dining room and a playroom. The 1.9-acre property also has a pool and a corral.

The Days raised their children there--all 10 of them.

The home is listed with Sandra Deel in the Beverly Hills office of Fred Sands Realtors.

In February ANN BLYTH and her husband, DR. JAMES McNULTY, sold the eight-bedroom Toluca Lake house they owned for 36 years in February for $1,275,000, and now escrow has been opened on the house again for about $1.5 million.

Don Peterson, the seller this time, had planned to renovate the two-level Colonial mansion but decided to remain in his Bel-Air home instead. The buyer plans to do extensive renovations, after escrow closes in August, and put the house back on the market again after the first of the year at $2.5 million.

Jack Sammons of the Sherman Oaks office of Merrill Lynch Realty represented Peterson in the deal.

Blyth and her husband are building a new home for themselves at Fairbanks Ranch, in Rancho Santa Fe in northern San Diego County, and plan to move into it by July.

JULIE ANDREWS and husband BLAKE EDWARDS have settled into the new Brentwood home they bought a few months ago from Columbia Residential Development.

The couple apparently did not buy the four-bedroom, 6,900-square-foot house with a pool and lots of trees in the back yard for Andrews’ daughter, Emma, as we mentioned hearing in January.

“Emma lives in New York, but Julie and Blake are living in the Brentwood home with their two daughters, and they love it very much,” said Deborah Moore, who represented the couple with Syri Stoll, both of Asher Dann & Associates, in the $3.25-million deal.

The house where Madonna and Sean Penn were married, next door to Johnny Carson’s in Malibu, has been leased for the month of July at $65,000 by a Florida couple planning to vacation here.

Attorney Dan Unger and his wife, Elda, chairman of an organization called Free Arts for Abused Children, own the home, which is also on the market for $6.9 million.

“They built it about seven years ago and want to go on to create something else,” said Ellen Francisco, who shares the listing with Ron de Salvo, both of Douglas Properties.

Designed by architect Ed Niles, the five-bedroom, glass and wood home is on an acre-size bluff overlooking the ocean, on the sheltered side of Point Dume, and it has a pool, tennis court and gym.
