Fury Over the Focus

Of all 20th-Century thinkers, Ayn Rand was unique. She was a firm believer in the glory that rational and free men and women are capable of on this Earth. She presented her ideas in novels with exciting plots, strong heroes, and moral conflicts. She believed that ideas are important and practical. Garry Abrams’ article (“Ayn Rand: Fountainhead of a New Fury,” May 30) is apparently more interested in sex, drugs and muckraking. Rather than focusing on Ayn Rand’s ideas and accomplishments, Abrams presents snide comments quoted from people who are her admitted antagonists.
The soap operas being spun by Nathaniel Brandon and his wife are superfluous. They are nothing more than attempts to cash in on the corpse of an intellectual giant by people who did not have the courage to speak while she was alive. I cannot understand why some people find it necessary to degrade and diminish those of ability and courage.
