The mother of three children abandoned in a National City hospital will be arraigned Wednesday, police said.
Deanna Sue Peters, 22, was being held at the County Jail at Las Colinas on suspicion of child abandonment and conspiracy for allegedly deserting her children Saturday night. A male companion, Richard S. Byford, 20, faces the same charges and an additional count of aiding and abetting Peters, police said.
Peters allegedly left her three children, Richard Christen, 4; Michael, 2, and Kevin, 5 months, outside the emergency room at Paradise Valley Hospital about 7 p.m. Saturday.
Peters and Byford, who were heading for Colorado, were arrested Sunday in Barstow after their car broke down.
The children are at the Hillcrest Receiving Home.
