Parents as Protectors of Children’s Lives
- Share via
As parents of two young boys, we grieve with the Jordan and Reilly families over the loss of their children.
We parents are the principal protectors of our children’s lives whether they are at home, in day-care homes, or at school. We need to set high standards for their safety from fire, drowning, earthquakes or car accidents.
We must never abdicate our responsibility to the government for our family’s welfare. As car seats, earthquake preparedness, smoking dangers and fire alarm systems become part of our awareness, we need to take action.
Fire danger is only one of many reasons not to entrust our children to the care of a smoker.
This message comes too late for the Jordans and Reillys, but just in time for the thousands of parents who make daily decisions about their children’s well-being.
